Wine / About us
Our Winery
We value and bear the name “Geschwister Köwerich”, even if making wine is easier than explaining the family tree…!
The name has an interesting history, tradition and a strong connection to the region – and we think that suits us very well. Even though we run the winery as a couple and not as siblings, the name is for us a symbol of community, cooperation and the strong family connection that has been the basis of the winery for generations.
So the history of this family lives on today, both in the winery’s wines and in the connection to Beethoven, which makes the winery unique.
In addition to maintaining this heritage, we also focus on maintaining sustainable and traditional cultivation methods. For example, we stick to the so-called “single-post training” on steep slopes – an old method in which the vines are trained on a post, which enables the plants to be cared for in a particularly natural and artisanal way.
This allows us to produce wines with character and depth that naturally reflect the character of our region and the heart of our terroir – always with respect for history and an eye for the future.
Wine / Winemaker
Nadine Donati
During the Corona pandemic, I decided to pursue my love and curiosity for growing wine. I took three years of unpaid leave from Lufthansa, swapped my pumps for rubber boots and completed an apprenticeship as a winemaker. During this time, I not only learned a lot about the complex world of winemaking – from careful pruning to the sensitivity of fermentation and wine maturation, but also fell in love with the beautiful Moselle landscape – and ultimately with Marcus, my trainer at the time.
Wine / Winemaker
Marcus Regnery
In order to carry on the roots of our traditional winery and live my passion for winemaking, I studied viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim after an internship at the Juliusspital. Our winery, whose history stretches back to Beethoven’s mother, is deeply connected to the Moselle. I hold on to this tradition out of conviction and therefore only devote myself to white grape varieties – above all to Riesling, which characterizes the oldest wine region in Germany.

OUR EMPLOYEES
To produce high-quality wine and sparkling wine, you need not only first-class and healthy grapes, but also motivated and reliable employees. For me, respectful and friendly interaction with one another is of great importance.
I am particularly proud and grateful for the long-standing loyalty and trusting cooperation of my Polish core crew, who already worked for my parents in the winery. They support me just as actively as my mother and brother, who help me to live the tradition of a family-run winery.
With my cellar master, who worked for decades in a renowned winery, I am currently developing a new line to complement my wines.
It is also a great pleasure for me to pass on the knowledge I have acquired about wine to my trainees, in order to give the tradition of winemaking a future.
Our winery currently cultivates 14 hectares of its own vineyards in the Köwerich area, with 50% of the vines planted on steep slopes and 50% on flat terrain. In our vineyards we have traditionally only grown classic white wine grape varieties.
Wine / LOCATIONS
THE STEEP SITES
The steep slopes of the Mosel form the backbone of Mosel winegrowing. Winegrowing has been practiced in these locations since Roman times – without interruption! They are therefore among the oldest cultural landscapes in Europe. Due to the unique slate soil and the location on the river, they have a special microclimate that has an intensive influence on the quality of the wines.
Our steep slopes are located in the Köwericher Laurentiuslay, Klüsserather Bruderschaft and in the Thörnischer Ritsch.

Köwericher Laurentiuslay
The Köwericher Laurentiuslay site takes up the largest part of our steep vineyards. Thanks to the exposed south-west location, it has direct sunlight almost all day long. The wines from this site have a high minerality and are therefore very suitable for evolving as dry wines. Our Laurentiuslay “13” 2023 comes from this excellent location and is a reminiscence of the first documented mention of the town of Köwerich in 704.

Klüsserather Bruderschaft
The name Klüsserather Bruderschaft already indicates monastic ownership. It is exposed to the south, which means it has direct sunlight throughout the day. The wooded hinterland means it has a very good water supply. The wines from this location are characterized by fruity, floral aromas, and are therefore very well suited to being developed as semi-dry or fruity-sweet wines. A very good example of this is our “R” Klüsserather Bruderschaft 2021.

Thörnicher Ritsch
The Thörnicher Ritsch mountain rises monolithically between the valleys of Salm and Kahlbach. The south-facing exposure is combined with an extreme steepness. This means that the Thörnicher Ritsch is considered one of the best on the Mosel due to its climatic potential. The wines from this location are characterized by their mineral aroma. Our Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Auslese skilfully reflects this.

THE FLAT LOCATIONS
At the beginning of the last century, people began to plant more vines in the flat areas. This was partly due to the increasing demand for Moselle wine, and partly to compensate for the extremely laborious cultivation of the vineyards on the steep slopes. In the case of our winery, our flat vineyards (even the flat areas on the Moselle are called vineyards) extend in a belt around the town of Köwerich. On the one hand, these are sandy soils that are located near the river in the Moselle loop. They are well suited to growing Riesling, Burgundy or Gewürztraminer vines, and on the other hand, gravel soils that rise gently behind the town. These are predestined for growing Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
